Spartans History

Established in 2011 the Spartans are a mixed gender, equal opportunity baseball team based in County Durham UK.

The original team 'The Newton Aycliffe Spartans' was founded in 2011 by John Johnson & Sean Wallwein and quickly found success, winning their first game (the last game of the season) in 2012 against Oldham.

The team joined the British Baseball Federation's (BBF) Northern Baseball league in 2012 and went on to win the Double A championship in 2014.

Following a successful couple of years the team was rebranded 'The county Durham Spartans' in January 2016 who went on to win the Single A championship the same year, followed by the Double A championship again 2 years later in 2018.

A team hiatus followed this great run.

The team Joined the North East Baseball League (NEBL) in 2023.​​
